RENEGADE SPRINT CAR SERIES
305 Spec Rules & Specifications
Updated 12-2-2008
The RaceSaver 305 SPEC head and accompanying engine and car rules are the foundation of our Renegade Sprint Car Class. These rules have enabled this class to grow from 8 cars the first night of racing in 2002 up to 24+ cars every night of racing. These rules are intended to make our sprint car class both AFFORDABLE and FUN. As you read through the rules keep in mind that they are designed to save you MONEY and help you and everyone else in this class be competitive and have fun racing. We can't keep racers from spending money but we can try to keep that money from buying a significant advantage.

The spirit and intent of the RaceSaver 305 SPEC Engine Rules will prevail.
ENGINE TECH PROCEDURES:
All engines in the Renegade Sprint Car Series must be inspected and sealed prior to competing in any scheduled racing event.
All engines must meet the required specs set forth by the Renegade Sprint Car Series engine rules. (See Engine rules and Racesaver 305 Spec. head rules, above)
All engine inspections will be carried out by an RSCS Tech and one representative of the engine being inspected. This representative will be responsible for any rules violations/infractions from that point forward and will sign a statement of such at the end of the inspection process.
All engine inspections will be by appointment only, on a first-come-first-serve basis, by contacting an RSCS tech to schedule your inspection.
The following criteria must be met when your engine is to be inspected. Failure to meet these requirements will result in your having your appointment delayed until all prep work is done. REINSPECTION due to rules infraction or prep criteria will result in a SECOND inspection fee.
Inspection fee is $100.00 when performed in El Paso or Las Cruces. Areas outside of the general El Paso or Las Cruces area will be subject to additional time/mileage fees.
- Engines must be assembled in short block form, i.e. crank, rods, pistons, camshaft, timing cover, balancer and balancer bolt. NO oil pan or heads. Engine must be on a suitable engine stand that can rotate 360 degrees. If your engine has a drilled or knife edged crank, you may be required to remove crankshaft to weigh it, ADVISE TECH. INSPECTOR OF THIS WHEN SCHEDULING APPOINTMENT.
- Cylinder heads must be registered and certified by V.S.S. (French Grimes). Heads must be totally assembled and ready to install during inspection process.
- Lifters, pushrods, rocker arms and all bolts should be clean and ready to install during the inspection procedure.
- Four (4) short head bolts and two timing cover bolts are required to have a 5/64 or min .080 hole drilled through the center of the top of the bolt to accept the engine seals.
Upon the completion of the inspection process the engine will be assembled to a long block configuration and sealed using two adjacent head bolts on each side of the engine and two adjacent timing cover bolts. The engine inspections and sealing process are vital to the integrity of the Renegade Sprint Car Series and also provides a thorough and timely post race inspection at each and every race. THE ENGINE SEALS WILL NOT BE TAMPERED WITH OR REMOVED FOR ANY REASON without prior authorization by the RSCS tech. NO EXCUSES, NO EXCEPTIONS. There will be a SEVERE FINE AND PENALTY for this violation.
Any AUTHORIZED removal of any seal for the purpose of making repairs will require a new engine inspection before any new seals are installed.
Engine seals will be checked at each and every event. CARS WITH UNSEALED ENGINES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE, NO EXCEPTIONS.

MINIMUM WEIGHT:
Car and driver 1600 lbs. after main event, zero tolerance. Top 3 cars in heat and top 5 in the main will go directly to the scales to be weighed. You will leave enough distance between the cars to allow a push vehicle to push the cars on the scale. At no time is anyone allowed within 10 feet of the car except designated officials. (It is the driver’s responsibility to keep everyone away from their car.) The driver must remain in the car until he has been weighed. If a car is found to be light, they will be allowed one re-weigh (the car will be pushed to a staging area and remain there until an official directs him back on the scale). The cars will be directed from the scale to a tech area.
LINE UP:
- First night of racing will be a pill draw for heats.
- Qualifiers redraw for starting positions in main (1 heat, top 5 redraw / 2 or 5 heats, top 10 redraw / 3, 4 or 6 heats, top 12 redraw).
- From second night of racing on, all heat races will be lined up by season points average, stagger inverted, for all heats.
- ‘B' main(s) will line up heads-up from the heat races.
- 'A' main will line with heat race qualifiers inverted (1 heat, top 5 invert / 2 or 5 heats, top 10 invert / 3, 4 or 6 heats, top 12 invert) according to track season points average. Balance of 'A' main field is lined up heads-up according to heat or 'B' main(s) finish.
- New drivers having no point average will start scratch in their heat. If driver qualifies out of their heat race, they will line up in LAST inverted position for 'A' main.
- Drivers with NO SPRINT CAR experience will start scratch for three race nights (heat, main, etc) and will fly flags/streamers at the rear of the roll cage.
- If a driver is absent two consecutive events at the same track (excluding rainouts), upon their return they will be treated as a new car at that track the first race night they return.
- RSCS and track officials will decide the number of cars that start in the 'A' main.
POINTS:
- Weekly 'A' feature win is 40 points, with each subsequent position worth one point less, with 24th position in feature worth 17 points. If more than 24 cars start in the 'A' feature, all positions from 24th back receive 17 points. If track runs a 'B' feature(s), first non-transferring driver receives 16 points and each subsequent position back to 6th position, receives 1 less point/position. 6th position on back in all 'B' feature(s) receive 11 points. Drivers that don't qualify for 'A' or 'B' features will receive NO points. Should a driver qualify for an 'A' or 'B' feature and not be able to compete, they will be scored in last position and receive points accordingly. TRACK standings are based on drivers total cumulative points at that track.
- For the season RSCS championship, all drivers will be allowed one throw-out race.
RACE PROCEDURES:
RSCS officials will work with track officials to ensure a safe and fair race program. RSCS does not have its own race judges and scorers, therefore we will rely on the hosting track officials for on track scoring and judging. We will abide by track procedures concerning yellow flags, red flags, restarts, and any other calls made during the race. After the green flag, the race is controlled, scored and judged by the hosting racetrack. After the checkered flag, the race results will revert back to RSCS officials for legality of race cars only.
DISQUALIFICATION PROCEDURES:
- Black flag (main event) – Loss of points for the night. (This does not include being flack-flagged for equipment problems, i.e. flat tire, etc.
- Technical infractions (engine or car rules) - Loss of points for the night, last place money goes into RSCS operating fund and driver must start their next race as if they had missed two consecutive races at that track (see #8 above in Line Up).
